What Phosphor Icons is

Phosphor solves the problem most icon sets create: you pick a set, then discover you need a filled version for the active state and there is none. Here the same icon exists in thin, light, regular, bold, fill and duotone.

That makes it the practical choice for an interface with states — a tab bar where the current tab is filled, a list where a selected row goes bold — because the shapes stay identical across weights.

Good for

  • Interfaces that need active and inactive states of the same icon
  • Matching icon weight to a heavy or a light typeface
  • Design systems where one family has to cover everything

Worth knowing

  • Six weights is a lot of choice — pick two and write down which goes where, or the interface drifts.
  • Duotone needs two colors to work; it looks flat if you apply a single fill.
