What Unsplash is
Unsplash grew out of photographers publishing their work under a permissive licence, and it is now the first place most people look for a hero image. The photos lean editorial and atmospheric rather than corporate: real rooms, real light, few staged handshakes.
You can download without an account, and the licence lets you use a photo commercially and modify it without crediting the photographer. Crediting is still the decent thing to do, and the download dialog makes it one click.
Good for
- A hero image for a landing page or an article header
- Backgrounds and textures where mood matters more than a specific object
- Social posts and presentations that need to look considered
Worth knowing
- You may not sell the photo as it is or build a competing stock service from the library.
- The most popular images are genuinely everywhere — search for the specific object and scroll past the first screen.
