What Google Search Console is
Search Console is the only place you see your own search data rather than a model of it: the exact queries people typed, how often your page was shown, how often it was clicked and where it sat in the results.
It also reports the mechanical problems — pages Google chose not to index, redirects it could not follow, structured data it could not parse, and Core Web Vitals measured on real visitors rather than in a test.
Good for
- Finding queries you already rank for and could rank better for
- Diagnosing why a page is not in the index
- Checking that a redesign or a migration did not lose pages
Worth knowing
- Data starts from the day you verify the site — there is no history before that, so connect it early.
- Position is an average across many searches; treat the trend as the signal, not the number.
