Why is the owner’s name hidden?
Since GDPR most registrars hide personal details of domain owners and show "REDACTED FOR PRIVACY" instead. You can usually still contact the owner through a form on the registrar’s website.
What is RDAP?
The modern replacement for WHOIS. It returns the same registration data in a structured format. This tool uses RDAP first and falls back to classic WHOIS for domains whose registries don’t support it yet.
What happens when a domain expires?
The website and email stop working. For most domains there is a grace period of about 30 days to renew at the normal price, then a redemption period with a fee, and only after that can someone else register it.
